The Botanical Garden & Garden is located 18 kilometers from the city of Chania shortly after the village of Fournes and just before the historic Lakkos-Skordalou. It is a neighboring paradise, created by the Marinaki brothers, at a site affected by a depressing fire in 2003. Inside this colorful landscape is a centuries-old olive tree, in memory of the devastating fire.
The park covers about 200 crowns and is the only garden park in Europe to have the largest biodiversity with 150 different species of fruit trees from around the world with hundreds of varieties of them, dozens of different herbs, spices, medicinal and ornamental plants. The Botanical Garden & Garden of Crete is among the ten best botanical gardens in the world, according to the Guardian.
The park tour takes about 2 hours, and the visitor will follow the incredible natural beauty path with the special signs, and you will get to know the many trees and plants that thrive.
At the bottom of the park, there is a lake that offers home and protection to ducks, geese, and other aquatic birds. In addition, the park has an outdoor, stone and atmospheric amphitheater for small events.
At any time of year, and if the visitor chooses to walk the park, he will be fascinated by the colors, the aromas and the variety of species. It will enjoy all stages of the life cycle of flowers, plants, and trees, as well as the various species of flora and fauna they attract per season.
The Botanical Park and Garden of Crete has a restaurant certified by the “Cretan cuisine quality” label of the brand. The visitor can taste authentic local flavors with fresh products from the park’s vegetable, herbs, and fruits, enjoying the hospitality and the magnificent views of the lush landscape.
