Crystal blue waters, fine sand in all shades of white, beige and pink and white pebbles, crowded or deserted, Chania beaches rank among the most impressive of all Greece. It is not a coincidence that frequently, international lists of the world’s most beautiful beaches include Balos, Elafonisi, and the beach of Agiannis in Gavdos.
Chania offer endless sandy beaches along the northern and the southern coastline of Chania. Many visitors are attracted daily to the beaches of Georgioupolis, Almyrida, and the vast beach of Platanias (which extends till Maleme). The beaches located in Akrotiri are quite unique. They offer unparalleled wild beauty, exemplified by Seitan Limania.
Moving further from the norther coast line, on the west, we find Falassarna an amazing sandy beach, very large in size, with clear blue waters and one of the most amazing sunsets one can ever see. On the northwest coast of Chania lies the lagoon of Balos. The huge rock which is connected with the shore by a sandy lagoon; creates one of the most astounding landscapes of Crete & even Greece. Moving further south, one of the beaches one should not overlook, is Elafonisi. An island of sand, joined with the coast by a narrow sandy strip. The shallow waters, are reminiscent of the Caribbean Sea.
Further south, Pachia Ammos in Paleochora, is another beach considered among the best of Chania.
Many people however, prefer to spend entire holidays in the south coastline, close to the Libyan Sea in the Villages of Sfakia, Loutro, Agia Roumeli, Sougia and Fragokastello, which offer spectacular beaches and sceneries.
Lastly, Gavdos, the southernmost part of Europe, with its brown, thick sand, its magnificent, wild, untouched shores, and its big waves, awaits to amaze visitors.
