Milia is a newly renovated village, very traditional, and fully formed with respect to the environment and the beautiful scenery. It is located at an altitude of 500 meters at a countryside location in Kissamos Prefecture of Chania.
Milia was a medieval village, where at one time a group of people decided to bring it back to life. They rebuilt homes, equipped them with old furniture and basic amenities, planted thousands of trees and cultivated the land with organic produce.
The houses have single or double beds, a fireplace or wood stoves for heating and hot water. All houses have a balcony or terrace or garden. The settlement has no electricity, as there is only one generator that provides lighting in wintertime and only a few hours at night.
The water comes directly from the source. The food is made in the traditional way and with organic products. The atmosphere is magical and everyone becomes a beautiful company. Nature embraces the visitor, the starlight illuminates the beautiful nights and the music of the birds singing and the brook running gives a beautiful musical color to the everyday life of the inhabitants.
Everyday life in Milia is full of activities. Cooking seminars and hiking trips are often organized. Some interesting events are organized from time to time, such as painting exhibitions, music formats, yoga seminars, brainstorming, small conferences and more. The settlement has a small permanent outdoor exhibition of stone structures.
The story of Milia ….
In the early 1980s, Tsourounakis Iakovos had the vision of seeing these lands revive. He wanted to cultivate the land, cultivate organic produce and create a breeding farm. His companion in the vision was his friend, George Makrakis, and during their journey they decided to create the ecological village of Milia.
