Located on Halidon Street, the Municipal Gallery is a three-storey building built in 1910 and is a faithful example of the Neoclassical Greek Architecture of commercial and industrial buildings constructed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The building of the Municipal Gallery is made of stones exterior without coating.. On the façade of the building, carved stones of equal size are laid out in rows, which give an imposing aesthetic effect.
The Municipality of Chania, with the operation of the Municipal Art Gallery, aims to highlight this area, not only as a source of culture and art in the museum sense but also in the broadest possible sense. It is a space where the fields of Art, Speech, and Science coexist, seeking the help of one another with the common goal of realizing the visions each sector has of contributing to the evolution of the Human Spirit in the community. The reason for the existence of the Municipal Art Gallery must be the development of one’s cultural education.
The Municipal Gallery has been in operation since 2003 after the complete renovation of the building.
